And We’re Back…

NHL games are BACK today and boy are we ready!!

The last two weeks were amazing. The Olympics provided more than enough entertainment to make up for the lack of NHL games. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out so well for Team USA.

But just a few great things did happen in the world of Olympic hockey…

1) Everyone and their mother now know who TJ Oshie is

ice-hockey-winter-olympics-day-20140215-151212-394

And the majority of those people are going to claim to have loved him before this epic shootout…

but what really matters is that AMERICA loves him now.

Let’s face it.. how could you not?

2) America didn’t suck as bad as we thought they would

They still didn’t bring home a medal but before the games started most people predicted that Team USA would be a joke. The Olympics were going to be a great opportunity to make fun of this amazing country on the world stage.

And it’s true… Team USA didn’t have the depth or skill level.

But what they lacked in talent they made up for in HEART.

To say that we were surprised by how well their first few games went would be an understatement.

We loved it though. Every second of it.

3. PUPPIES

Oh yeah… this happened too.

So while it wasn’t the best outcome for Team USA, it’s time for us to hug it out and move on

BACK TO THE NHL

We’re ready for games to be on at normal hours of the day again…

And there’s a good game or two on this week.

Like this one.

So have a great week everyone. You deserve it.

Bowling for Smiles

There’s nothing like when hockey player’s are performing charity work within the community. Last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins took a break from being the on-ice idols to become friends with children who are in less than fortunate circumstances.

2014 “Pens & Pins” Make-A-Wish Charity

It’s events like this that make my heart melt. Seeing guys who are larger than life, take time out of their busy schedules to have fun with well deserving kids, is a sight that is always welcome to any fan.

It’s these kind of moments that bring a smile to anyone’s face. Not only does it make you want to restore faith in humanity, but it makes you want to try to be a better person.

It’s no secret that all NHL teams perform acts of charity, like going to local children’s hospitals to deliver Christmas presents. But every time it happens, my overall “level of happiness” soars through the roof.

Whenever any hockey player performs charity work, it completely reaffirms the reasons why Hockey Players are Actually Sweethearts.

24 Reasons Why Hockey Players Are Actually Big, Cuddly Sweethearts

And #7 They’re Very Caring.

But they're also very caring.

Hockey players are the most awesome athletes in the world. Bringing smiles to well-deserving kids and their families warms my heart beyond belief. So, thank you NHL players for being the amazing guys you are and being a part of something that’s greater than yourselves.

It’s a Christmas Movie Miracle

… Well, not really. More like the Chicago Blackhawks are taking some time off from hockey to discover their acting (or lack thereof) talent.

I mean, who could resist Corey Crawford as Jacob Black?

so heart-felt

What’s even more irresistible? Patrick Sharp as Batman. As if Ben Affleck had any chance of actually pulling off that role.

But he’s got some competition with Ben Smith as Captain America.

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is a classic John Hughes movie that everyone needs to see at least once in their lifetime. Rather than Mr. Rooney on a manhunt for Ferris, it should have been Marian Hossa.

But what about the childhood classic “The Karate Kid” starring none other than Andrew Shaw!

wax on, wax off

When you’re looking for an up-lifting quote that makes you realize things aren’t so bad, it’s Brandon Saad to the rescue.

he kinda pulls off the “grunge” look

Then there’s that really weird movie no one stops talking about. Like, EVER. In this instance that would be Nick Leddy as Napoleon Dynamite.

“Tina, you fat lard!”

The best are saved for last, especially here on For the Love of Goons. This time it just happens to be Patrick Kane as Anakin Skywalker and Jonathan Toews as Wolverine.

First, Kaner. Let’s remind all those non-Star Wars people out there that Anakin Skywalker is the guy that becomes Darth Vader. So does this make Patty Kane evil? Probably not. (We’re willing to overlook previous incidents to the contrary.)

Finally, Toews as Wolverine. I’ve never seen these movies before, but I wish he would use those razors to shave those awful side-burns.

All in all, this is the kind of Christmas cheer that I love the Blackhawks for spreading (though it has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas). I just hope Santa can grant my last minute wish to get these fantastic movies under my tree!

15 Reasons to Smile

After a rough week of hockey and now the beginning of finals week I couldn’t take it anymore.

We all need a reason to smile. Cause it’s our favorite.

So enjoy this little break from studying and take a breath. A deep breath.

Here’s a few things things to remind us that everything is going to be alright.

Happy Birthday, Kaner!

Patrick Kane, welcome to the quarter of a century old club. Although, it’s not that cool yet seeing as Tina and I have yet to be inducted. But today you have made it a significantly better place to be.

It’s hard for us to image that you’ve been dangling your way through the NHL for the last six seasons. We’ve for sure crowned you the prince of dangle-city, especially when it comes to shootouts.

You also have two Stanley Cup Championships, a Conn Smythe, a Silver Medal from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and a Calder Trophy to your name. Pretty impressive career for a guy who’s only 25 years old.

Oh and did we forget to mention you got the 2010 Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime of Game 6 and no one but you knew it went in? Yeah, that happened.

What we love the most is your ability to surprise us.

Speaking of “business in the front, party on the back”, as college girls, we understand the brief phase you had. Because really, everyone should experience college in one way or another.

Now, you’re 25. Mature. Well-dressed. And love to dance. Especially with Jimmy Buffett.
